I've gotta say, I love this movie and I'm usually the first to nit pick at movie based on fairytales and/or books.
It was a continuos pace, no boring lag time and it had a lot of action sequences. I seriously love the little stuff like "sugar sickness" and the way they both got there assess kicked. It made the characters more relatable.
Even tho a lot of the storyline is predictable, it doesn't take away from it. It was so well done you barely had time to register your victory at being right.
The actors were very likable as their characters but I must admit that at times thechemistry between the two main actors bordered on awckward. During a couple of scenes I didn't feel the brotherly sisterly love, instead I was left sitting there feeling a tad uncomfortable and thinking they might have been better suited for a different storyline or different characters.
Not to say Jeremy Renner wasn't a great Hansel or that Gemma Arterton was the best Damn Gretel yet but I noticed my bestfriend and I awckwardly glancing at each other through certain scenes between the 2.
Also, even tho I was pleasantly pleased with the crew's ability to make such beautiful women so gosh darned ugly, I felt like the 'henchmen' of Famke Janssen's character Muriel were lacking in the story department. Once again, I'm not saying the actresses were great in the capacity of the roles given to them but I do feel like the writers should have spent a tad more time on the story boards when creating those 2 characters to say the least.
All in all, I'd say this was well worth the theater fare. A solid movie, good pace and a noticeable amount of attention to detail that didn't dry up the story or drag it out.
4.5 stars means I think it was nearly perfect. I'll definitely buy it once its out of dvd
